Crispy Flavorful Actifry Chickpeas*

Updated: Nov 1, 2018

My grandson broke his leg last weekend, so I've been going through my recipes looking for high protein and calcium snacks. One of my favorite Actifry recipes is this dairy-free, gluten free "Dorito" flavoured mix. Usually I sprinkle it on popcorn but today I chose the protein of chickpeas (garbanzo beans). My Actifry is one of my most beloved kitchen appliances for quick, minimal fat frying. (I am in no way connected to, or reimbursed for that plug!) Use any seasoning you love when making these crispy little morsels.

Dorito-Flavoured Snack Seasoning:

(Use organic spices when possible)

1 tsp. Garlic powder or granules

1 tsp. Chili powder

1/4 cup Nutritional Yeast

1 tsp. Cumin

1 tsp. Onion powder or granules

1 tsp. Paprika

2 tsp. Salt

1/8 - 1/4 tsp. Cayenne (optional)

Combine all ingredients in spice grinder or blender jar; blend to fine powder. ( A small funnel such as this one from Epicure works very well to transfer the powder into a small jar - again, no sponsorship, it's just what I have.)

Actifry Chickpeas:

1 can Chickpeas

1 tbsp. Olive oil

1-2 tsp. Seasoning mix, or to taste

Drain and rinse well. Turn out onto absorbent towel to finish draining and drying for 5-10 minutes.

Place in Actifry. Drizzle with olive oil; sprinkle with seasoning. Cook for 20 -35 minutes, testing at 5-minute intervals after 20 minutes. I prefer mine fairly crunchy, so I take at least 35 minutes.
